SAIL FOR PRIDE: Our 2011 Charitable Partner

Just days after the 9/11 attack, a group of sailors led by Scott Murray, Mick Harvey and Brad Read founded the Sail For Pride Regatta to raise money to support the victims and their families. And indeed they succeeded in raising over $110,000. Over the past nine years they have continued to raise money under the name Sail For Hope to reflect the RI state motto. From 2002 on, the funds were directed to support local Rhode Island charities. This year, being the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the name Sail For Pride will be brought back. NIBS is very proud to help this wonderful organization.

How to get involved:
The 10th Anniversary Sail For Pride race to benefit American Servicemen & Women charities will take place on September 11, 2011. This date commemorates the 9/11 fateful moment in history and the founding of Sail For Pride.
Boats over 22 ft. are invited to join the 18-plus mile race around Conanicut Island, Jamestown, RI. All types of boats are encouraged to participate. There will be many classes offered for handicap and one-design boats. Boats that do not have a Narragansett Bay PHRF rating will be given one for the event. In addition, boats will be asked to fly their ensign from their transom in a show of patriotism as the flotilla navigates around Conanicut Island and finishes in Newport Harbor. To register for the race, go to www.sailnewport.org.

This year’s charitable organizations are The Wounded Warrior Project and the American Red Cross of RI Service to Armed Forces Fund.

NIBS is proud to partner with this wonderful organization.
If you cannot enter the race, please stop by the Sail For Pride booth at the boat show.

Partial proceeds from Sunday ticket sales will be donated to Sail For Pride.
